As historical records indicate, pistachio trees existed in Iran since 4500 years ago but the nut consumers were only the royal and wealthy families and Pistachios were a favorite of Queen Saba. More than 4300 years ago pistachio trees had been wild plants. However from about 200 years ago, our grandfathers decided to plant pistachio in their farms and tried to graft some pieces on to some others varieties yield good crops.

Nowadays, there are more than 433,000 hectares farms in Iran and some others countries producing pistachios. Kerman and Yazd provinces (esp. the regions surrounding Rafsanjan township) are the core of the biggest farms and highest production of Iranian pistachios.

The ideal climatic conditions of these areas , with abundance of sunshine and perfect soil for the growth of pistachio trees , gives the pistachio most natural taste and flavor that no other types of pistachios in the world can be equal.
In Iran, there are 330,000 and 103,000 hectares bearing and non-bearing areas (source: statistical Dept. of ministry of agriculture 2004) and More than 80% are located in Kerman & Yazd provinces, the minimum productions were 85,000 tones in 2004.

Pistachios are one of the traditional exporting agricultural products of Iran with 900 million US dollars of civil annual profitability, are ranked the first non-petroleum exporting items.

Owing to hygienic consideration as well as aflatoxin decontamination affairs ,application of restricted regulations for harvesting, processing & exporting of pistachios have been recommended .As a result the procedures is carried out by means of thoroughly sanitary facilities in order to facilitate the exporting trend.
